Enhanced File Transfer Server Introduction

Overview

The GlobalScape Enhanced File Transfer (EFT) Server is an electronic file transfer server that securely exchanges files over the Internet. Users connect to the EFT Server through a seamless Web Client that runs in Internet web browsers. The Web Client encrypts username and password submissions as well as the files it transfers making all transactions with the EFT Server protected and secure. The EFT Server is preferred over email to transfer files over the Internet.

System Requirements

The GlobalScape Web Client runs through most standard Internet web browsers including: Internet Explorer 6, Firefox 1.0.3, Mozilla 1.7.7, Netscape 7.2, and Opera 8.

Following are additional requirements:

NOTE: Clients requiring technical assistance should contact their IT person. We cannot suggest changes to client system configurations as they may result in making other programs inoperable.


Logging Into the EFT Server

Login Procedure

Before logging into the EFT server a user needs a username and password. Users with Client Portals have their usernames and passwords provided by their company contact. All other users should look for their username and password in the e-mail alerting them to the download.

To login to the EFT server:

  1. Open an Internet web browser.
  2. Go to https://secure.tbgweb.com.
  3. Enter a valid username and password.
  4. Click "OK".

Security Warning

When logging into the EFT Server it is common for users with dated versions of Java software to see a Security Warning from their web browser. The message references the Security Certificate used to encrypt information. The file exchange page on the EFT Server uses Java software and older versions of Java software incorrectly report some valid Security Certificates as expired or not yet valid.

To resolve this the user may:

The warning dialog is for informational purposes only. Despite the warning there is no valid security issue so suppressing the message in this instance is an easy way to proceed and stop this incident from reoccurring.


Transferring Files Via the Web Client

Overview

After logging into the EFT Server users are presented with the Web Client. The Web Client is a Java-based program used to transfer files in Internet web browsers. The large window on the left is the Local Filesystem. This is the users' local storage. The large window on the right is the Remote Filesystem. This is the users folder on our EFT Server. The area that runs along the bottom of the screen is the Queue Pane and shows the status of file transfers.

Upload Procedure

  1. Login to the EFT Server.
  2. Browse the Local Filesystem window to find the file to upload.
  3. Highlight the file to upload by selecting it with the mouse.
  4. Click the "Upload" button in the space between the Local Filesystem window and the Remote Filesystem window.
  5. Watch the transfer status in the Queue Pane at the bottom of the screen for a confirmation.

Download Procedure

  1. Login to the EFT Server.
  2. Browse the Local Filesystem window to find the folder where the downloaded file is to be saved.
  3. Highlight the file to download in the Remote Filesystem window by selecting it with the mouse.
  4. Click the "Download" button in the space between the Local Filesystem window and the Remote Filesystem window.
  5. Watch the transfer status in the Queue Pane at the bottom of the screen for a confirmation.
